We would like to thank our newest Signers - Timothy Richardson, Stanton Bell, Steven Kershaw, and Heather Thornton!

There are nearly one million people in jail in the United States for non-violent activities related to the use, possession, cultivation, transportation or sale of marijuana. The purpose of this site is to make available a place for everyone who supports the idea of Nojailforpot to sign his or her name, and make it proudly public for everyone to see. The people below have taken the significant step of putting their names to this important declaration, for all the country to see.

The hypocrisy of political leaders on this issue is unconscionable. Al Gore showed that these people believe prison is a bad idea for the children of politicians, but say it's a good idea for everyone else's kids. The current policy is completely untenable. The cost, in both dollars and in human misery, is extravagant. The War on the Constitution, misbilled as a "war on drugs", has nearly destroyed a once-great nation. This must end.

I AM PROUD TO ADD MY NAME TO THE DECLARATION!THANK'S FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.

The prohibition of marijuana (pot) is antiquated and out of step with the modren world. If we are to move forward we must remove the governments propagandaist repression and replace it with facts. They say it is a gate-way drug. If that be true ... Then so is mothers milk. Marijuana poses less of a threat to our health than the alcohol and tobacco lobbyists. pyfolkman

It is a travesty that in a supposedly free country we continue to incarcerate people for making essentially poor lifestyle and health choices. Like Prohibition of alcohol 80 years ago, the laws against marijuana and other drugs have caused far more damage to society and the rule of law - corruption of politicians and police, erosion of civil liberties, the tearing apart of lives and families - than the drugs themselves have ever caused. Instead of learning our lesson from Prohibition, we continue to wage 'war' on our own people and pay lip service to education and treatment. And the target date of December 25,2004 is much too late.

I advocate total depenalization for all responsible adult manufacture, possession, and use of cannabis and cannabis products. People should not only not serve jail time for these things, but they should also not lose their driver's licenses and other licenses and certifications for their professions.

My major motivation in signing this is to recognize that prohibition has caused much more harm than good, and that a free country must permit people to make their own choices.

This substance has no known cases where death has been the result of it's use. Also, it has been proven that it is less harmful to an individual than tobacco products, which are permitted. THere is no reason that possesion or use of this substance should result in any criminal association whatsoever.
