We would like to thank our newest Signers - Timothy Richardson, Stanton Bell, Steven Kershaw, and Heather Thornton!

There are nearly one million people in jail in the United States for non-violent activities related to the use, possession, cultivation, transportation or sale of marijuana. The purpose of this site is to make available a place for everyone who supports the idea of Nojailforpot to sign his or her name, and make it proudly public for everyone to see. The people below have taken the significant step of putting their names to this important declaration, for all the country to see.

While I do not advocate the things that we all know happen to people in American prisons and, in fact, believe there should be much more attention paid to stopping that sort of behavior, I do acknowledge what goes on in prisons (ie rape, etc) and understand the psychological impact this has on people. Men who have had this happen to them often become deranged and, when released, feel the need to reassert their masculinity by themselves raping. As a result, not only is locking up people who are not guilty of any violent act taking up space in prisons that could be better utilized in eliminating actual criminals from our society but there is evidence that it actually CREATES violent criminals. Is this the goal of our society?

The drug war needs to be labled for what it is. A war on the citizens of a free nation. The drug war is wrong for many reasons but primarily because the war on drugs violates our constitutional rights to be secure in our homes, from the police and the military! It violates more than our rights. The war on drugs costs the taxpayer BILLIONS of dollars! (so we pay for our own oppression!)Does any business spend this kind of money without accountabillity? NO! Any CEO worth her salt would be asking "what are we getting for a return on our investment?" I could go on and on and on... I feel I have the right to do stupid things if I want to. As long as I don't hurt anyone else or their property I should be left alone. That is what I am fighting for, the opportunity to be left alone.

While I don't think smoking pot is a healthful activity, and as such should be discouraged, I think having it be illegal makes no more sense than having smoking tobacco be illegal. I guess the only argument for making it illegal is that people are dangerous behind the wheel of a car if they are high, and it would be hard to test them ( compared to testing for alcohol). Sure would free up some time for our law enforcement people to concentrate on what matters if the laws were changed! Hope this does some good!

First off, people from all over the world can access this website, thus this declaration, (quite obviously). I think that your questions as for addresses need to include the rest of the world, not just the united states. However,Just to let you know, I actually did live in maine this year and do love the U.S. With all that said, I think marijuana should be legalized or at the very least, decriminalized for all of North America. I think that this is a great page, and I think that what you're doing here is just plain super! Keep up the good work!
