Notable People News Wire
We would like to thank our newest Signers - Timothy Richardson, Stanton Bell, Steven Kershaw, and Heather Thornton!

There are nearly one million people in jail in the United States for non-violent activities related to the use, possession, cultivation, transportation or sale of marijuana. The purpose of this site is to make available a place for everyone who supports the idea of Nojailforpot to sign his or her name, and make it proudly public for everyone to see. The people below have taken the significant step of putting their names to this important declaration, for all the country to see.

Our tax dollars are being spent to incarcerate non-violent, formerly productive and otherwise law-abiding citizens. It costs between $20,000 and $30,000 per person, per year, to house, clothe, feed and monitor these individuals in prison. This does not include the cost to investigate, arrest, try and convict these persons; nor does it include the cost of social services often required by the families of those incarcerated. I think all taxpayers should be outraged.

It is every individual person's right as a human being to do unto themselves as they wish. if people wish to use marijuana recreationally and responsibally then no one should have the right to tell them they can't. I spent ten and a half months in a military brig just because I used recreational drugs. Even though I was a responsible young adult, who did my job well and with pride and excellence, I was convicted of a felony and now my record is marred and the government has thrown a stumbling block in my pursuit of happiness. Anyone who respects human rights should sign this petition and if they do not than I never want to hear them complain about not being free because here is the first step to making a stand for true freedom.

It is a known fact that alcohol is more physiologically damaging to the body than marijuana. If marijuana is illegal, than alcohol should be illegal. I detest having someone put in jail who is otherwise a responsible human being who pays their taxes and have their rights taken away from them for what is essentialy a lifestyle choice!

I am not an advid weed smoker but I have experimented with it in the past. I really think that marijuana is harmless, but some people do abuse it. I also think that it really isn't a big time drug like cocaine and others to that nature. It really comes down to how you handle yourself when you use it.

decriminalization/legalization is the way to go, period.
